Bath and North East Somerset Council has revealed the dates bins will be collected during the Christmas period. Normal schedules will be disrupted for residents between Christmas Day and Saturday, January 10.
Councillor Mark Elliot, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “Thanks to the commitment and effort of all our residents, we have an outstanding 60% recycling rate for 2024/25 here in Bath and North East Somerset. Christmas and New Year will be especially busy for our crews because waste typically increases by 30%.
“To help them collect quickly as they cope with the increased amount of rubbish and recycling, especially food waste, we encourage everyone to wash, squash and sort their waste before putting it in the green recycling boxes. That will enable the crews to keep their vehicle moving and reduce traffic congestion in your road.”
The council stressed that only plain brown wrapping paper can be recycled in blue cardboard recycling bags. Christmas wrapping paper that is marked recyclable often contains a non-paper element, such as glitter, which cannot be recycled.
Garden waste collections have now been paused and will resume on Monday, January 19. However, Christmas trees can still be collected by the council’s garden waste team when collections resume or, for a small donation, by the local hospice charity Dorothy House.
Notably, Recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The Reuse Shop in Keynsham will likewise be closed from Saturday, December 20 until Saturday, January 3.
