Staff at shop threatened by knife-wielding robber

A police investigation has been launched after a knifepoint robbery at a Somerset convenience shop.

Staff at McColl’s in Frome were threatened by a man brandishing a knife today (February 14), police say.

Officers were called to the Vallis Way shop at around 12.30pm after the man made off with a quantity of cash.

Nobody is believed to have been harmed in the incident.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary statement reads: “The man is described as approximately 35-40 years old and was wearing a black raincoat, black trousers, sports sunglasses a white mask and disposable gloves.

“He also had a pair of grey trainers on, with white soles, and was seen walking with a distinctive gait.”

The statement adds: “Enquiries, including reviewing CCTV in the area, are ongoing.

“Anyone who witnessed what happens, or can assist with our enquiries, is asked to call 101 and give reference number 5221032365.”
