A 78-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in Dunster yesterday (October 29).
Hugh Webber, of St George’s Street, Dunster, was charged today (Friday, October 30).
It comes after 77-year-old Dunster parish councillor Angela Webber died in the Somerset village at around 3am on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene and paramedics attempted to treat her injuries, but she was pronounced dead a short time afterwards.
Police cordons have been up around the scene throughout Friday and Avon and Somerset Police said earlier today they had arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with the death.
The police have now confirmed that Mr Webber has been charged with murder and will appear in Taunton Crown Court tomorrow, Saturday, October 31.
The statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: “A 78-year-old man has this evening (Friday 30 October) been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Dunster.
“Hugh Webber, of St George’s Street, was arrested after the 77-year-old woman was found seriously injured at about 3am yesterday morning. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she died at the scene.
“A police cordon was set up and investigations in the area have continued since.
“Additional patrols are being carried out and we’d encourage anyone to approach those officers if they have any concerns.
“Webber has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Taunton Crown Court tomorrow (Saturday 31 October).”
Mrs Webber was well-known locally as a councillor.
One neighbour told us: “She was such a nice, chatty lady.
“When we had street parties around here, she would always be going round handing out the leaflets.”
