A serious crash in Somerset has led to a major road being closed in both directions.
The A303 in Wincanton has been closed due to an accident, which saw a car collide with the central reservation this morning (September 14).
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports the accident initially occurred on the eastbound carriageway before the car went into the reservation.
Traffic service Inrix reports: “A303 in both directions blocked, queuing traffic due to serious accident, one vehicle involved from A371 (Wincanton) to B3081 (Leigh Common).
“Road now blocked both directions following an accident on the eastbound carriageway which has resulted in the vehicle colliding into the central reservation.”
Travel Somerset tweeted at around 11.10am saying they had reports of a crash and advised drivers to follow local diversions.

They wrote: “We have reports of an RTC on the A303 near Wincanton, which has closed the road in both directions. Updates to come when it re-opens; in the meantime please follow local diversions.”
The A303 is a trunk road in southern England, running between Basingstoke in Hampshire and Honiton in Devon via Stonehenge.
Connecting the M3 and the A30, it is part of one of the main routes from London to Devon and Cornwall. It is a primary A road throughout its length, passing through five counties.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Avon and Somerset Police have been contacted for comment.
