Lorry driver surrenders licence after M5 crash

A man has surrendered his licence after allegedly passing out while driving a lorry on the M5 this evening (December 28).

Several lanes have been closed after the crash caused ‘extensive damage’ to the motorway’s central reservation.

The motorist received ‘medical’ help following the smash, which happened at around 7pm, between J27 ( Tiverton ) to J26 (Wellington).

Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team tweeted: “Single vehicle collision crossing the central reservation on M5 between J26/J27.

“Driver believed to have passed out who is now receiving medical attention and has surrendered his licence. Some lane closures still in place.”

A spokesperson for Highways England tweeted: “M5 Both directions between J26 Wellington and J27 Tiverton, we are installing a lane three closure due to there being extensive damage to the central reservation barrier following a lorry strike.”
