Rockaway Park’s January Sunday Session

28 January @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Rockaway’s first Sunday Session of the year kicks off with a live music treat from Canadian artist, Maddie Storvold. Often compared to Joni Mitchell, Maddie possesses compassion and storytelling abilities far beyond her years, delighting audiences with a honeyed, impassioned voice and emotive fingerpicking.

As a live performer, she’s been described as having a “commanding stage presence, a quirky sense of humour, and a knack for capturing moments in song,” (Vue Weekly) with audience members enjoying both music and stand-up comedy in one act. A regular on the festival circuit, Maddie’s star is rising fast in the Canadian music scene. For a taster of her amazing talent, check out her video HERE.

There’s also open studios, another fantastic market of local artists, crafters and makers, plus the wonderful Sarah Lewis and Tracey Calvert from Normal Magic offering free mental health advice (anonymous and off-grid!) Sarah and Tracey are also running their free drop-in sensory workshop for primary age children and their parents/guardians/carers. Informal, fun and inspirational, these sensory workshops offer a range of activities that use our sense of sound, sight, touch, taste, smell, body awareness and balance. By including the ‘Normal Magic 10 a day choices,’ Sarah and Tracey bring to life the many ways we choose to balance and protect our mental health.

There’s no need to book, just drop into the Rockaway classroom between 11.30am and 1.30pm to take part in this popular free sensory experience.

The Vegan Cafe is offering another fab selection of delicious home-made vegan roasts, plus cakes, savoury snacks and hot or cold drinks. So, don’t forget to book your roast in advance to help us avoid food waste.

This family-friendly event is free to attend, with a £5 fee for each vehicle if the Parking Field is operational. Keep an eye out for updates about parking nearer the time. Any donations you’re able to make in one of our donation buckets in the Rockaway yard – from spare change or a couple of quid to more – will help us continue to provide live music at our Sunday Sessions, and is very much appreciated!
