Discover something new this May
Over the weekend of 20 and 21 May, 29 artists in the Newbridge area of Bath will open their doors to the public. Now celebrating its twelfth year, the Newbridge Arts Trail is an established annual event, bringing together professional and non-professional artists and makers with students, schools, business sponsors and the local or wider community.
For visitors, the trail provides an opportunity to meet artists, talk about their work and processes and see how much original art is created in our area. Visitors may even be inspired to start or resume a creative activity themselves. Artists can showcase current work and gain feedback on new directions they’re taking.
There’s an impressive range of media, including painting, printmaking, drawing, illustration, photography, jewellery, ceramics, felting, bookbinding, graphic and digital art. Much of the work is offered for sale at affordable prices.
There are 14 venues, most within walking distance of each other. They’re open from 10.30am to 5.00pm on both days and entry is free. At some venues, visitors can watch demonstrations and join drop-in workshops. While most are private homes and studios, there are also group locations where several people exhibit together. These include the Weston Methodist Church Hall in Kennington Road, Newbridge Primary School in Charmouth Road and the Locksbrook Inn in Locksbrook Road.
Full details can be found online at www.newbridgeartstrail.org, with a list of venues, artist profiles and examples of their work. A printed trail guide, with map showing all locations, will be available from local shops, businesses and Bath Library.
It’s a great way to spend a day or the whole weekend – on your own, with friends or as a family. Whether you’re walking or driving, the route is manageable and refreshments are provided at pubs, cafés and some artist venues.
