A happy hour of joyful music written to touch the spirit, from an age when the church was both a major patron and an endless source of inspiration to composers, and when the musical language of the Baroque was newly emerging.

Here’s an opportunity to hear local early music ensemble Musicke in the Ayre in a gorgeous programme they premiered to great acclaim at last year’s Frome Festival. With three sopranos (Maria Danishvar-Wilson, Jane Hunt and Philippa Neaverson) supported by Din Ghani on archlute (which he made for himself), they are able to bring to life some hidden treasures of the sacred repertoire from Venice and Versailles during the 17th century. There are masterpieces from the monumental Monteverdi, a beautiful cantata from the brilliant Barbara Strozzi, luscious lines from Louis XIV’s fave Lully; even lesser-known folk such as Grandi, Charpentier and Du Mont make their presence felt.

With the performance starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 7.30pm, there’s time to enjoy an evening in the lovely city of Bath.
