A total of 51 coronavirus cases were confirmed across Somerset over the past 24 hours – and almost half were in one area.
According to the latest figures (October 12), 23 tested positive for the virus in Bath and North East Somerset today.
Sedgemoor recorded a jump of nine, while Somerset West and Taunton reported an increase of seven.
UK-wide, 13,972 new Covid cases were confirmed today. That brings our nation’s total to 617,688.
Fifty further UK deaths were also reported over the past 24 hours, bringing our UK total to 42,875.

The figures come on the same day that Boris Johnson has announced a three-tier level for lockdown.
In the ‘very high’ level, households will be banned from mixing indoors and in private gardens, and pubs and bars will be forced to close.
In “medium” areas, the current government rules (such as the rule of six and the 10pm curfew) will remain in place, while in “high” alert areas, households will be banned from mixing indoors and all non-essential travel.
