A37 to be closed for several hours after car flips onto roof

The A37 is set to be closed for several hours near Somerton after a car overturned onto its roof.

The crash was first reported at around 11.30am on the road near West Lydford, with the road now closed in both directions.

An update via traffic monitoring service INRIX says there is “very slow traffic” in the area as a result, with roads effected between Shepton Mallet and Lydford on Fosse.

The update says: “A37 in both directions closed, very slow traffic due to accident from Fair Place (West Lydford) to Lottiesham turn off (Hornblotton Green).

“Affecting traffic travelling between Shepton Mallet and Lydford-on-Fosse.”

Avon and Somerset Police have issued a further bulletin, indicating the road could be closed for between two and three hours as the collision is dealt with.

The bulletin describes the scene as a “single-vehicle RTC with a car on its roof”.
